| Dear Traveler, I have included pictures from Wiesbaden,
which was my home, in the early 60's.
1962, 1963 and 1964 were special years for me and many of my classmates.
We were 12, 13 and 14 years old; we were just beginning to get a sense of ourselves, in a
wonderfully enchanting European city, and our unique situation of age and circumstance
forged many strong bonds and memories. We were together for a time; a time which passed
too quickly, and we were torn apart by the random separation which is the military brat's
curse and occasional salvation.
We were Air Force dependents. We lived in Air Force housing areas: Aukamm,
Hainerberg or Crestview, or we lived in the city, "on the economy."
We wore black pants, which were too short, with white socks and black
loafers, madras shirts with fruitloops, we danced on Friday nights at the Teen Club, to
songs like "Sealed With A Kiss"," Big Girls Don't Cry" and
"Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" and our parents drove us to the Taunus Theater where
we had our first date and perhaps our first kiss.
I have tried to include pictures of Wiesbaden of the ordinary places;
places that would be familiar, not spectacular. It is my hope that some of you may briefly
experience yourself again...... the way you were.
